A very interesting Japanese blended whisky. This whisky has a rather romantic name, a portmanteau of the words Yama and Sakura. Yama means mountain in Japanese, whilst Sakura is Japanese for cherry tree, so the title of this dram conjures up a peaceful scene of the Japanese landscape, shown on the bottle’s label.

The whisky is not distilled by Sasanokawa, but is a blend of four different malt whiskies, and a little grain to bind them together.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Orange blossom and subtle notes of earthy oak.

Palate: Fresh orchard fruit, salted-caramel-coated biscuit, greengages.

Finish: Medium length, rich in vanilla.

Matured for 7 years in first-fill Sherry hogsheads. Distilled and matured at Lochranza

Aged in smaller casks to intensify the maturation process and add an extra dimension of spice

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: Polished mahogany

Nose: Chocolate raisins, mandarins and a hint of spice, promising a full-bodied dram

Palate: Chewy, warm notes of ripe figs and sweet cherries, luxurious but retains finesse with a beautiful balance between the mighty Sherry Cask and the subtle Arran spirit

Finish: Long, powerful with a touch of pink pepper, hazelnuts and toasted oak.

Proefnotitie:

Beronia Rueda is lichtgeel van kleur met groenachtige tinten. Intens aromatisch, het toont tonen van citrus en wit fruit samen met kruidachtige aroma's die typisch zijn voor de druivensoort, zoals venkel. Rijkelijk fruitig in de mond, fris en elegant, met een zachte bitterheid van de afdronk, ook kenmerkend voor de Verdejo-druif. 

Het Huis : In 1835 heeft de Spanjaard Manuel Maria Gonzalez het bedrijf in Spanje opgericht. Zijn hoofd business was toen het produceren van sherry. Daar is inmiddels een heel assortiment stille wijnen en Cava bij gekomen. Door de enorme groei is daar heel snel Robert Blake Byass bij gekomen en was de start van het bedrijf Gonzalez-Byass een feit.

Het bedrijf bezit op dit moment 700 ha wijngaarden in de beste streken van de Jerez en in andere wijnproduktiegebieden van Spanja, o.a. in Castilla (Altozano) en Catalonië (Cava Castell de Vilarnau). Gonzales Byass is een bedrijf dat klassieke wijnen produceert met een prima prijs- kwaliteitsverhouding.

Bodegas Beronia is gelegen in Ollauri, in het hart van de Rioja Alta district.  In dit gebied staat een nalatenschap van de 55-jaar oude wijngaarden, waar de beste Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha en Viura stammen worden geteeld.
