The first expression from the new Glen Garioch range, ‘1797 Founder’s Reserve’ pays tribute to the Manson brothers, the founding fathers of the distillery.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: deep gold.

Nose: lively, marked by citrus fruit, lemon and orange. Touch of pear and honey. An abundance of malted barley. Caramel and charred oak. Anise

Palate: mellow and expressive. Oak undertones, rich aromas of vanilla and caramel. Notes of walnuts and milky hazelnut.

Finish: persistent notes of oak but no bitterness.

Het Huis: Dit eeuwenoude familiedomein, opgericht in 1768, staat vandaag de dag onder leiding van Philippe Gilbert, die in 1998, na een carrière als toneelschrijver, het roer van zijn vader overnam. Hoewel de Gilberts altijd al flink aan de weg getimmerd hebben – zo was de opa van Philippe één van de oprichters van de AOC Menetou-Salon in 1959 – is het onder Philippes leiding dat het domein een enorme sprong in kwaliteit heeft gemaakt. In 2005 nam Philippe de oenoloog Jean-Philippe Louis in de arm, en samen converteerden ze het domein in eerste instantie naar een biologische en vervolgens, in 2007, naar biologisch-dynamische wijnbouw. De wijngaarden (27 hectare in totaal, waarvan 15 beplant met Pinot Noir, 12 met Sauvignon Blanc) liggen verspreid door de appellatie, in de betere zones rondom de dorpjes Vignoux, Parassy en Morogues.

This Lowlands Single Malt draws its unique complexity from a maturation in three types of casks: American Bourbon barrels, Oloroso Sherry casks and Spanish Pedro Ximénez wine casks.

Tasting Notes:

Appearance: amber.

Nose: rich and spicy, the initial nose is a full expression of the sherry and tobacco with a light smoky touch. It then becomes more fruity and patisserie-like with notes of orange cake, apricot, date and almonds, on a background of chocolate.

Palate: soft and oily. Characterised by wax and precious wood. Both delicate and syrupy, it evolves with toffee and caramel, orangette and candied fruit.

Finish: very long and lightly tannic, with lemongrass and spice.
